Youth Excellence Recognition

The Vietnamese Culture and Science Association (VCSA) will sponsor the Sixteenth Annual Vietnamese-American Youth Excellence Recognition Program to commemorate the accomplishments of outstanding Vietnamese-American high school students. 

VCSA annually recognizes the academic achievements of Vietnamese-American high school students who graduated as either valedictorian or salutatorian of their respective high schools. The program also serves to encourage the younger Vietnamese-American generations to strive for academic excellence and instill a strong sense of civic responsibility among all Vietnamese-Americans in the Greater Houston area.

The following is a list of Vietnamese-American students from the Houston area who have graduated as either valedictorian or salutatorian for the class of 2012. 

The sixteen valedictorians are:

  • Tien Nguyen-East Early College High School
  • Quyen Ngoc Le-Sharpstown High School
  • Andy Dao-Bush High School
  • Alexander Tran-Channelview High School
  • Andy Pham-Clear Brook High School
  • Nathan Nguyen-Friendswood High School
  • Christopher Leba-Pearland High School
  • Thu Quynh Mai-Cypress Ridge High School
  • Carol To-Uyen Tran-Dobie High School
  • An Hoang Tran-South Houston High School
  • Madalyn Nguyen-Kingwood Park High School
  • Hoaihuong Truong-Dickinson High School
  • Kenny Huynh-Alief Elsik High School
  • Van Nguyen-Palacios High School
  • Y-Lan Truong-Stafford High School
The ten salutatorians are: 
  • Thao Nguyen-Chavez High School
  • Christina Tran-International School of Sharpstown
  • Anh Phuong Huynh-Austin High School
  • Jordan Huynh-Kempner High School
  • Cari Ngo-Dekaney High School
  • Phuong Kim Ly-Dobie High School
  • Connie Ngocdiem Le-South Houston High School
  • Helen Tang-Kerr High School
  • Kim Phung Nguyen Tran-Hastings High School
  • Duy-An Tran-Palacios High School.

In addition to the Recognition Program, there will be a luncheon featuring authentic Vietnamese cuisine, scholarship award presentations, cultural performances featuring beautiful Vietnamese traditions and attire, and a keynote address by Dr. Hai Ho, the Vice President of Global R&D at Newell Rubbermaid. Six hundred (600) guests are expected to attend, including school district administrators; elected officials, such as the Mayor, City Council Members, county officials, congressional representatives; and local corporation representatives who have continually supported this program throughout the past sixteen years.

Based in Houston, Texas, VCSA was founded in 1990. It has members throughout the U.S. and Canada with chapters in Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Diego, Minnesota, Washington DC and Toronto, Canada. VCSA promotes excellence in education, leadership and skills development, and volunteerism through culture and science. The organization encourages multi-generational and cross-cultural collaborations by cultivating civic participation in the mainstream and Vietnamese America.

Tickets to the event, open to all members of the community, are $25.00 per person and can be purchased at the VCSA Center, located at 4615 Belle Park Dr, Houston, Texas 77072.
