Mr. Buu-Van

Community Advocate and Crime
Buu-Van, age 58, who lives in San Diego, California with his wife Connie, of 47 years and three children; has been a former San Diego City Commissioner and received the Leadership 2000 Program Scholarship and graduated from California State University of San Marcos.
As a former city commissioner for the San Diego Human Relations Commission and the Co-founder of the Indochinese Community Storefront in Mid-City and East San Diego, Buu-Van gets a community service office storefront at 52nd and University Avenue to help fight crime and improve quality of life in San Diego.
He is a strong voice for San Diegans and Immigrants, and a tireless leader in the Asian community, with extensive accomplishments on human relations, legal and government affairs, culture and language experts, the economy, Asian cultural heritages, women and children’s issues and refugees and immigrants’ issues.
As a co-founder of the Indochinese Community Service Storefront, Buu-Van fought for full city money for implement real community policing in Mid-City and East San Diego to reduce crime and provide public safety (safety, crime, violence and drugs) and improve quality of life in our city.
As a City Commissioner of San Diego Human Relations Commission, Buu-Van provided liaison and expertise to community members and city government representatives regarding economic, political and educational opportunities, and the rights of all citizens of San Diego.
Buu-Van’s career has been a series of firsts. He is the first Indochinese –Asian man to be appointed as a city commissioner from the 5th District representative by City Councilman Tom Behr, the first Indochinese vice-chairman to serve on Indochinese Republican Party League of State of California, the first Asian Chairman of Indochinese Council of San Diego 3rd District-City City Councilwoman Gloria Mc.Coll/ Deputy Mayor and first founding member of the Indochinese/Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce to promote growth of more than 300 small businesses in Southeast San Diego, create employment opportunities, and enhance investments in San Diego county businesses and communities.

New Mission Statement: To promote and enhance technical competency and professional well-being of our members, and through quality programs and activities in culture, science and technology for the 21st century in the context of educating the Vietnamese future leaders to contribute to the well-being of Vietnamese communities through out the United States and the world.
